INTRODUCTION

The Faculty of Computing and Information Systems was established with a vision to produce graduates who possess the right combination of knowledge and practical hands-on expertise to take care of both an organisation’s information technology infrastructure and the people who use it. IT specialists assume responsibility for selecting hardware and software products appropriate for an organization, integrating those products with organizational needs and infrastructure, and installing, customizing and maintaining those applications for the organization’s computer users. Examples of these responsibilities include the installation of networks; network administration and security; the design of web pages; the development of multimedia resources; the installation of communication components; the oversight of email products; and the planning and management of the technology life-cycle by which an organization’s technology is maintained, upgraded, and replaced. The program aims at producing graduates with practical skills to:.

  •  Participate in a professional manner in the development of modern information technology products and services.
  •  Specify, design and implement computer based elements of computer systems which are technically and economically acceptable.
  • Plan and monitor information technology projects and understand the control aspects of such undertakings.
  • Develop skills and abilities in an independent professional manner with a view to managing their own professional business in information technology such as e-commerce

The Faculty offers 4 distinctive BSc (Honours) programs each of 10 semesters (4 years) duration:

  • BSc (Honours) Information Technology (Network Management and Implementation)
  • BSc (Honours) Information Technology (Business Computing)
  • BSc (Honours) Information Technology (Information Management and Security)
  • BSc (Honours) Information Technology (Internet Systems Development)

DEAN MESSAGE

It gives me great pleasure and honor to introduce to you the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems. The Faculty was established to address the pressing need of a program for training and qualification in the field of information technology, in such a way as to achieve levels of qualification that gain the acknowledgement and acceptance of the international computing institutions. The Faculty is much concerned with realizing a sort of balance between scientific knowledge of basic science and the methods of academic learning to enable the student to have the ability of self learning and to keep pace with the advancements in this field. The program also enables the student to join domestic and external graduate programs, and to join the relevant jobs in business markets.
