Civil engineering is a discipline that deals with the built environment. The built environment encompasses much of what defines modern civilization where buildings and bridges are often the first constructions that come to mind. More examples include but not limited to roads, railroads, subway systems, and airports. The design of the proposed program takes into account the very nature of the Civil Engineering’s broad scope and reflects how the degree requirements are fulfilled through the presented curriculum and courses layout.
Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering is a program that supports a career in the design or construction of civil and structural engineering projects. The curriculum is designed such that it covers the basic science and mathematics skills needed for the practice of civil engineering. The courses included are meant to provide the student with a solid foundation in problem solving and analytical thinking, which are essential for civil engineering students. At the third year standing level, the student will have courses that build on the basic science courses and provide fundamental knowledge in areas of civil engineering such as fluid mechanics, structural analysis, soil mechanics and environmental engineering. At this level, more emphasis will be on hands-on laboratories to build practical skills from the classroom instruction. With the appropriate background acquired, students then take design classes and get engaged in the professional practice design sequence. Furthermore, these classes include foundation design and transportation. In their final year, the students will encapsulate the knowledge they gained through a graduation project under the supervision and guidance of the faculty members.
Program Goals
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Program seeks to prepare students to:
- Be successful professionals recognized for critical thinking and problem solving based on a fundamental knowledge of humanities, social sciences, mathematics, science, engineering science and a broad range of civil engineering technical areas;
- Pursue a lifelong learning and professional development.
- Demonstrate excellence and innovation in engineering problem solving and design in a global and societal context
- Maintain a course of study well-founded in ethical knowledge and behavior consistent with the high aims of the civil engineering profession.
Program expected learning outcomes
On completion of the course, graduates of this program should be able to:
- Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
- Design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
- Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
- Function on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
- Understand professional and ethical responsibility.
- Communicate effectively.
- Demonstrate that they acquired knowledge of contemporary issues.
- Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
Program structure
The program involves 10 semesters to be taught in 5 calendar years; length of each semester is 15 weeks The total number of credit hours in the program is 189 credit hours distributed between subject groups as summarized in the following table. For more details of contact and credit hours for each subject please refer to the information below.
Training sessions
Three practical sessions are assigned during the vacations. These are to be conducted according to the following plan:
the Admission requirements are the following:
The candidate should pass at least seven subjects The high school certificate, (Mathematics , English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and any other two subjects).
Candidates have to pass all Subjects that mentioned above, the pass Degree for subject is minimum ( D ) or over.
The candidate's Bsc certificate should be authenticated from the high education ministry.
your certificate should meets the requirements above and also should be authenticated from Higher Ministry of Education and Scientific Research.
